Our à la main product line is handcrafted in small batches using the purest and most effective ingredients. We prioritize certified organic components whenever possible and use 100% therapeutic grade essential oils to ensure what touches your skin and fills your home is safe and supportive.
While our own product line is the foundation of our brand, the majority of what you will discover in our shop is a carefully curated collection of other brands we deeply trust. Every product we carry meets our standards for clean ingredient transparency, sustainability, and intentional design. We partner with many small businesses and mission driven founders who share our commitment to ingredient transparency, sustainability, and conscious living so you can shop confidently knowing everything has been thoroughly vetted.
We're Jill and Emily, the co-founders and heart behind à la main. We are neighbors and friends and moms who found ourselves on our own clean living journeys, up against personal obstacles in health and with our children. We both began getting rid of toxic conventional products over the last few years to a decade, to reduce the toxic load on our family. Along the way, we discovered many others who felt discouraged with health and wellness or how to navigate cleaner products, as well. We started working together to formulate and hand-make our own safer products and thus, à la main (meaning "made by hand" in french) was born!
Our main purpose and mission is to empower and provide you with clean-living products while focusing on reducing waste in the process! We believe that beauty and simplicity in your home and personal care products will greatly improve your well-being. The clean living movement is growing as we all become more informed on how to choose better. We hope to be your one-stop shop for all things clean, while refilling your most used and loved products time and time again. Thanks for being here!
Start of 2021 - Hosted parties making clean products with friends + family for fun
End of 2021 - Setup an office space in Jill's attic on Main St to make + sell products at markets
January, 2022 - Rebranded our name and our mission to included a refillery + sustainablity
February 11, 2022 - Launched our online shop www.shopalamain.com
July 8, 2022 - First wholesale order for our plant spray sold at Good Roots plant shop
July 14, 2022 - Opened our first shop on Emily's front porch on Main St
January 8, 2023 - Opened our official storefront at 577 Pennslyvania Ave. Glen Ellyn, IL
June 2023 - à la main collection products made available for wholesale to retailers nationwide
April 2025 - Moved locations to 532 Pennsylvania Avenue and began renovations
November 22, 2025 - Opened our new space at 532 Pennsylvania!
